Crouch Hill Station Shut Two Sundays, 6 and 13 September

Crouch Hill and Harringay Green Lanes have no trains at all on two Sundays this month.

Transport for London has closed the Suffragette line, the Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside route, on Sunday 6 September and again on Sunday 13 September. The two closures are different sizes:

• Sunday 6 September: no service between Gospel Oak and Woodgrange Park. A reduced service runs at the far end, between Woodgrange Park and Barking Riverside, every 30 minutes.
• Sunday 13 September: no service on the entire line.

Both are all-day closures. TfL’s planned track closures schedule, correct at publication on Friday 28 August, puts no start or finish time against either entry, unlike the part-day closures it lists elsewhere on the same pages.

Neither Saturday is affected. The schedule lists the Suffragette line on Sunday 6 and Sunday 13 only, so 5 and 12 September are ordinary Saturdays on this route.

Which local stations lose their service

The Suffragette line has 13 stations. Four of them are the ones people here use:

Upper Holloway is in Islington, about a mile south of Crouch End Broadway in a straight line. The other three are in Haringey.

TfL’s advice does not cover this end of the line

TfL’s own service message tells passengers to use Victoria line connections between Seven Sisters, Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow Central, and says replacement buses operate.

That is sound advice if you are travelling from South Tottenham eastwards. It is no help at Crouch Hill, which is not mentioned in the message at all. The nearest Underground station to Crouch Hill is Finsbury Park, about two thirds of a mile away in a straight line.

Four bus routes stop at Crouch Hill station, and TfL’s route data confirms where each of them goes:

• 210 to Finsbury Park one way, and to Archway, Highgate and Brent Cross the other. This is the one that matters most: it runs past the station door and reaches the Northern line at Archway.
• W7 to Finsbury Park and Muswell Hill Broadway.
• W3 to Finsbury Park and Northumberland Park.
• 310 to Golders Green and Stamford Hill.

Finsbury Park gives you the Victoria line, the Piccadilly line and Great Northern trains into Moorgate and King’s Cross. It is the practical substitute for a Suffragette line train on both Sundays.

Sunday 13 September is the first Sunday of Open House

The full-line closure lands on the opening weekend of Open House 2026, which runs from 12 to 20 September. Twenty six buildings in and around Crouch End, Hornsey and Highgate open free during it, and we have listed all of them with their booking rules.

If you were planning to reach one of them by train from the Gospel Oak or Walthamstow direction, there is no train on that Sunday. Buses and the Victoria line via Finsbury Park are the way in.

The road called Crouch Hill is still shut too

Separately from the railway, Crouch Hill the road has been closed since 9 February for Thames Water’s mains replacement. Haringey’s roadworks register still gives 2 November as the end date. Bus stops and diversions nearby have moved several times during the work. Also this week: late trains at three Tottenham stations

A second, smaller closure runs on the Weaver line from tonight. On Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 September, after 22:45 each evening, there is no service between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town or Cheshunt.

That takes the last trains away from Seven Sisters, Bruce Grove and White Hart Lane, all in Tottenham, roughly two to two and a half miles east of Crouch End Broadway. TfL gives the last through trains as 22:43 from Liverpool Street to Cheshunt, 22:50 from Enfield Town to Liverpool Street, 22:58 from Liverpool Street to Enfield Town and 22:59 from Cheshunt to Liverpool Street. Replacement buses operate.

What is coming after September

The same TfL schedule lists four more Sundays this autumn that take trains away from Crouch Hill and Harringay Green Lanes. Three of them are morning closures only, so an afternoon journey is fine:

The 18 October entry is at the Essex end and does not touch this side of the line. We have included it so the list is complete.

What it means for you

• If you use Crouch Hill or Harringay Green Lanes on a Sunday, check before you set out on 6 and 13 September. There is no train on either day.
• The replacement is the 210, W3 or W7 bus to Finsbury Park, or the 210 to Archway for the Northern line.
• Saturdays are unaffected. If your journey can move a day, move it back.
• Sunday 13 September is Open House opening weekend. Plan a bus route to anything you have booked.
• Late travellers from Seven Sisters, Bruce Grove or White Hart Lane should note the 22:45 cut-off on 1, 2 and 3 September.
