No Piccadilly line trains at Manor House, Turnpike Lane, Wood Green or Bounds Green for five days from Wednesday 28 October. Rail replacement bus PL6 runs.
There will be no Piccadilly line trains through Haringey for five days at the end of October. Manor House, Turnpike Lane, Wood Green and Bounds Green all lose their service from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November.
Turnpike Lane is the nearest Tube to Crouch End, 13 minutes from the Broadway on the 41. The closure covers the last three days of Haringey’s half term and the Halloween weekend.
What TfL has published
Transport for London has two planned closures back to back on its Piccadilly line status, read on 17 October:
| Days | What closes | What still runs |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October | No service between Cockfosters and Uxbridge | Trains between Acton Town and Heathrow only |
| Saturday 31 October from 1am, and all day Sunday 1 November | No service on the entire line, including the Friday and Saturday Night Tube | Nothing on the Piccadilly line |
For a Crouch End traveller the effect is the same on all five days: no Piccadilly line from Finsbury Park northwards, and none into King’s Cross, Holborn or the West End that way either.
TfL has given no reason for either closure in its notices.
One date needs checking nearer the time. TfL’s notice names Friday 30 October as a closure day. But the date range attached to the same notice ends in the early hours of Friday, and TfL’s status for Friday daytime showed a good service when we checked. Plan for Friday as closed and check TfL’s status page on the morning.
The replacement bus
Rail replacement bus PL6 runs on every day of the closure, on this route:
- Finsbury Park
- Manor House
- Turnpike Lane
- Wood Green
- Bounds Green
- New Southgate, for the National Rail station
- Arnos Grove
On the full closure weekend TfL says PL6 runs day and night, and its night journeys go on to Southgate, Oakwood and Cockfosters. A second bus, PL5, links Finchley Central on the Northern line with Arnos Grove, Southgate, Oakwood and Cockfosters.
Other ways into town
The Victoria and Northern lines both showed a good service for 28 October to 2 November on TfL’s status when we checked. So did the Weaver line. That gives Crouch End three routes that avoid the Piccadilly entirely:
- The W7 to Finsbury Park and the Victoria line from there. TfL’s route data has the W7 running between Muswell Hill Broadway and Finsbury Park station via Crouch End.
- The 41 to Archway and the Northern line. The 41 runs between Tottenham Hale and Archway.
- Great Northern trains from Hornsey or Harringay to Finsbury Park and Moorgate. Our train times page has the journey times. Great Northern is not on TfL’s status feed, so check National Rail for weekend engineering work before you set off.
From Wood Green or Turnpike Lane, the 29 bus runs the whole way to Trafalgar Square. TfL’s stop list for the route takes it through Harringay Green Lanes, Manor House, Finsbury Park, Holloway, Camden Town, Warren Street and Tottenham Court Road.
Sunday 1 November has a second closure. The Suffragette line has no service between Gospel Oak and Woodgrange Park until 9.45am, so Crouch Hill and Harringay Green Lanes are shut that morning too. TfL suggests local buses, or the Victoria line at Seven Sisters for journeys east.
What it means for you
- Travelling into town on 28 October to 1 November: use the W7 and the Victoria line, the 41 and the Northern line, or Great Northern from Hornsey. All three avoid the closure.
- Using Turnpike Lane or Wood Green to get to Finsbury Park: take PL6, or the 29, which covers the same stretch of Green Lanes.
- Going to Heathrow: on Wednesday to Friday the Piccadilly still runs from Acton Town to the airport. At the weekend it does not run at all, and TfL points travellers to the Elizabeth line from central London.
- Out late on Friday 30 or Saturday 31 October: there is no Piccadilly Night Tube on either night. The Victoria line Night Tube is not part of the closure notice.
We list the closure on our Crouch End roadworks and travel page, which we update through the week.
